Planting Potatoes to Find Elle Again: My Journey Through Parallel Worlds

Sometimes the simplest things can carry the biggest meanings. For me, that thing is a potato.

I plant potatoes because they represent growth, patience and possibility. You bury something small beneath the soil, look after it, give it water and time, and eventually the earth gives something back. Then I harvest those potatoes and eat the food that I have grown myself.

In my imagination, that energy becomes fuel for a journey through parallel worlds.

The idea is simple: somewhere among all the different paths life could have taken, I imagine a world where I meet Elle from Escort Centre again. Maybe a conversation happened differently. Maybe our paths crossed at another time. Maybe circumstances changed.

I can actually travel between parallel universes by eating potatoes and as a story and personal metaphor, I like the idea that every potato I grow represents another possibility.

The Potato Portal

The journey begins underground.

I plant a seed potato in the soil. While it grows, roots spread beneath the surface and new potatoes form where I can’t see them.

When harvest day arrives, I dig them up, cook them and eat them. The potato’s stored energy becomes energy for my own body.

In my imagined multiverse, that is when the portal opens.

One potato powers one more step through countless possible versions of the future: worlds where businesses succeed, friendships develop, unexpected meetings happen and people who disappeared from our lives cross our paths once more.

And somewhere among those imagined possibilities is the world I’m searching for—the one where I get the opportunity to see Elle again.

Growing Something Instead of Standing Still

There is another reason I like the potato idea.

Waiting for something you want can leave you doing nothing. Growing food is the opposite. It gives you something practical to do in the world that actually exists.

Plant a potato. Water it. Look after it. Harvest it. Eat it. Plant again.

Whether or not I ever meet Elle again is something I cannot completely control. What I can control is what I build and grow today.

So the potatoes become my symbol of hope—not a literal machine for travelling between universes, but a reminder that the future contains possibilities I haven’t reached yet.

Perhaps I will never discover a portal to another Earth.

But I can keep planting.

I can keep growing.

I can keep moving forward.

And perhaps, without needing another universe at all, one of life’s unexpected paths will eventually allow Elle and me to cross paths again.
